Congrats to the Flames

Just a quick shout out to the Calgary Flames who won in overtime last night against Detroit. I saw the first and second period, but didn't see the final. What I did see though, was very intense and very exciting, and both teams looked like they really wanted to win. I hate that Calgary beat the Canucks in the first series, but these guys certainly wanted to win, and apparently they did. Looking foward to seeing Calgary in the final.

Canucks Win!

Yes!!!

2-1 against the not-so-Mighty Ducks, my team did great. 1-1 almost the entire second and third period, with our game winning goal coming 20 seconds before the final buzzer. They played awesome as well, the entire game looked like a power play for us, with only the occassional let up where they sort of went, "awh shucks guys, I guess you can play in our zone for a bit now," before going and brutalizing the Ducks in theirs. Not sure what the shot count was, but it was pretty one sided for most of the game.

Canucks Game Oh My

Wow, anyone else watch the game tonight? After a furniture moving party Firefly, Lawrence and Cat5 (eventually) watched the game. And I do mean "game" in the loosest possible sense. 9-2 for the Avalanche, a lot of really horrible calls against us (we got 14 penalties, they got 2) resulting in what, three five-on-three for them? The four goals in two minutes certainly put the team on edge, and I don't think that Dan Cloutier shares all the blame, I wonder why the Avalance were allowed to get that close to him that often that close together!? What else was there... well, a bunch of fights, and Bertuzzi suspended indefinately after cold-cocking a Colorado player from behind (I'm all for friendly retribution if someone goes after our guys, but that was pretty bad IMHO), our guys going after the Avalanche goalie... more bad calls giving Hedburg game delay penalties that were pure and total bullshit.

Oh, and the Avalanche player finally being ejected from the game and then attacking a fan throwing something at him (I can't fault him entirely, as the fan was definately not making things any better by throwing whatever it was at someone already pissed off and being ejected). The list goes on. It was horrible to watch and I'm sure worse to be part of. Hopefully the suspensions and injuries don't knock the boys down too hard for the game on Wednesday.

I'm glad that Linden finally got his tie breaking goals though, though it was sad that such a cool even was overshadowed by (at the time) being behind by 5 goals. Maybe this will get him back from his 12 game dry spell and get things back on track.

Soccer Week 2... or... I'm Broken

Well, I survived week two of playing soccer with the new boss. I even managed to accumulate some plays, though not the best ones. Here they are in order of worst to best.
  • A goal.... on my own net. I was in there trying to block and it came in and deflected off of me. Wow, that sucks.
  • A shot on goal. The right one this time, but the kick went a couple of feet too high.
  • An assist. A lovely assist actually, I managed to catch a bad pass, run with it a bit and then pass it up field to some random dude (on my team for a change) to put it in.
No one got hurt this time either, though there was a guy who left with someone elses metal cleats embedded in their shin (I wasn't part of either the cleater or the cleatee side of things).

Other than those there was lots of running and panting. I did learn two things though. Don't eat a big dinner (or even a medium sized one) just before playing. Dont' eat a protein bar right after playing if you still have to bike home. Both these things will result in cramps and pain.

It was a lot of fun again though. It was nice and sunny and I got lots of good exercise for a couple of hours. Of course I was silly and went to the gym after work but before dinner and blew out my arms (left my legs alone). Then I rode home (actually made it up the evil hill to home without walking the bike as well).

I really have no one to blame for this though, except for society, Cosmo, and my parents for not raising a smarter kid that knows not to do these things.

Game 7

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

<gasp for breath>

HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two goals in about 30 seconds. Oh my god. The entire city of Vancouver just went crazy I think.

Hope it continues.

Update: 3 minutes later answered. We're still very much alive though.

Update: Wild just tied it up with 12 minutes left in the third. Come on guys, we believe!

Update: Grrr........

Update: Bah. Oh well, there's always next year :( :( :(

Canucks Win

WOW

That's about the only way to describe the Canucks game tonight. Started watching a bit during (another showing of Super Troopers) and saw it at 0-1 (bah) then 1-1 (yay) then 2-1 (bah), then 3-1 (triple bah)...

The movie was done and we were watching the final minutes of the game, Vancouver behind by a point, and then, in something right out of a movie, with 1.2 seconds remaining we get a goal.

Oh. My. God.

The group that was over and watching the game, nine total absolutely freaked out, scaring cats and small children alike. Picture perfect.

And of course, we won not long after. More child scaring ensued.

Go Canucks!

While watching the concert last night my only contact with the Canucks' game 7 over the Blues was Silverstr occasionally jumping on the Internet through his phone and checking the score, then passing it down the row of the four of us.

4-1 final. Awsome.

Great political cartoon in The Province of a guy in a Canucks jersey explaining his broken leg: "Bandwagon Jumping." (this has of course been discussed here and over at Muckhead's before).

I am still solidly on the Bandwagon, and fully behind the boys!

Canucks in 7! Canucks in 7!

Go Canucks! They slaughtered (well, mostly... well... they won!) the Blues 4-3 today to tie the series up at three each. Heading to easter dinner they were up 2-1, then 3-1, then 4-1... choked a bit in the third, but a win is a win! Looks like bear's predictions of the Canucks taking it in seven games will be right (*fingers crossed*)!

Oh, and before anyone takes issue about the bandwagon, I never left the Canucks, I was never planning to go anywhere until they were firmly in the ground, which they are not.

Falling off the Bandwagon

Hey Muckhead, is it all right to jump off the bandwagon now?

I love the Canucks, but man, last night was a disaster. I missed the first period, where apparently they kicked some serious ass, but the second and third were just horrible to listen to. They had a horrible percentage of well shots on net, somewhere in the negative numbers I think.

Maybe I should start cheering for the Oilers, and if that fails, any Canadian team (and if that fails, any team on the West coast). *sigh*

Come on boys! Bring it back next game! please?

Canucks Lose 2-0

I have to disagree with muckhead about the canucks being second best. True, they did lose, but it was a fantastic game (my sunday was spent mostly in front of the tube with beer and chips by my side). Both teams played a great game and it was only due to a shitty pass in their own zone that we gave up the first point (the second going in on an empty net). True that in the end it's still 2-0, but that was only in the last couple of minutes of the game. Lets hope that they play a bit better in the opening rounds....
