Finding MySQL Table Disk Usage Via SQL

A little snippet that's a deep-geek note-to-self. Darren found this from modifying information on this site and I figured I wanted to keep it around as it looks potentially handy to have. Also once google indexes things I'll be able to find it easily again!

Home Rack Idea

The Ikea Hacker blog has an interesting idea for a server in your living room. I'm not so hot on the "in your living room" as much as the idea for the cabinet which would look moderately nice (I do have access to a "real" rack but have yet to bring it home due to the fact it's pretty damn ugly and heavy).

Wish I knew why the Canadian version of the "Akurum" cabinet is almost double the cost of the US version.... $145 vs $86! Thanks for hosing us Ikea you hosers!

Anyway, looks like a potentially cool weekend project to hack around on to make the office look a little nicer.

File this one under "Note to self" and "TODO" :)

Darn you Darren, first not coming out this week and then pointing me to clonesumating as a possible drop in replacement for the aging P2P.

Note to Self - New Photoshop Download Tool

Saw over on the DAM book forums about ImageIngester, what looks like an all-in-one image downloader for Photoshop. Sucks down files, backs up to multiple places, converts RAW to DNG, verifies, launches viewers, and cooks you breakfast afterwards!

Dust and Scratch Removal Plugin for Photoshop

Just a note to myself to download this dust and scratch removal filter when I get home from work. Also a nifty photo retouching forum can be found at retouchpro.com.

Pure Pwnage

Funny video series about what it's like to be a "serious gamer". Pure Pwnage - Episodes, bittorrent available as well. I've watched the latest episode and it amused me greatly. Now they just need it set up in a video podcast via bittorrent :)

All About Xen

Linux has a article on Xen, a virtualization system similar to user mode linux, which I did a report on a while back. Xen is used by Unixshell, a company that provides web hosting on virtual machines (no affiliation with them, just noting they use the same tech). Here's a link to some Xen multi-distros-running-all-at-once screenshot goodness. Anyway, good article, Xen is something I want to check out in the near future. Link to Xen and Gentoo HOWTO.
